THROWBACK THURSDAY-RETRO CHRISTMAS PLAYLIST & PAST CHRISTMAS SHARES

thurs copy

Halloween is now over, the kiddies have sacks full of candy and those with food allergies hopefully have sacks full of non food surprises. Our children officially are non trick or treaters, but we had our own versions of trick or treating for the season which made this Halloween loving mama oh so happy! Hubz and I didn’t even dress up this year, for us that’s a big deal, between the shifts in our family dynamics and my health it just wasnt in the cards-here’s hoping next year has us back to playing dress up.

Down with the Halloween tree and all the décor inside and out this weekend, that is our plan, and out comes the Christmas stuff. I apologize to anyone yet to celebrate Thanksgiving ,here our feast has long come and gone.

The Halloween and Christmas seasons are way too short! No worries about Remembrance day, we remember those who fought for our freedom everyday, we keep a poppy on display with My dad’s and hubz grandfather’s army pictures all year round. We thank those past who fought and those who continue to fight, to allow us and our family the freedom to enjoy our way too early Christmas décor.

The season however is not complete nor can it commence without Christmas tunes! We have long digital playlists which are easy to stream anywhere in the house, but also have a nice collection of Christmas albums on vinyl. On our Christmas bucket list as always is to venture out and add to it.

Today to kick off the season I’m sharing some of our albums and my favourite songs on them.

Also some link backs to last year’s Christmas shares here on the blog and my Christmas in July shares.

At the bottom of the page you will find some printables that can be framed in a 8×10 frame to be used as a Chrsitmas countdown.

Now let’s JINGLE BELL ROCK……………

 A VERY SPECIAL CHRISTMAS 1987

a very special xmas

Proceeds from this album ( and the entire series, I believe there are 10 all together, from this one in 1987 to the last I can find info on in 2012) went to the Special Olympics.

Favourites on the album:

Bruce Springstien and the E street band  Merry Christmas Baby

John Cougar Mellencamp  I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus

U2  Baby Please Come Home

Bryan Adams  Run Run Rudolph

Stevie Nicks  Silent Night

Hubz Pic would have to be Run DMC Christmas in Hollis

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS 1989

nkotb xmas

Even though I didn’t like the NKOTB back in the day ( you know your old when you say back in the day lol) Hubz did, I found this album for him a few years ago so I’ve picked one fave on this album.

Favourites on the album:

Funky Funky Christmas

BONEY M CHRISTMAS ALBUM 1981

I don’t know if its because I grew up Catholic but Boney M is synonymous with Christmas music for me, as long as I can remember Mary’s Boy Child and Feliz Navidad was heard at Christmas.

Favourites on the album:

Feliz Navidad

Mary’s Boy Child

Jingle Bells- such a fun version

KENNY AND DOLLY ONCE UPON A CHRISTMAS 1984

kenny dolly xmas

I know I’ve said it before many times, I do not like country music, but country music Christmas albums don’t count lol. What a fun album cover on this one!

Favourites on the album:

I believe in Santa Claus

Christmas Without You

A Christmas To Remember

Once Upon a Christmas

KENNY ROGERS CHRISTMAS 1981

kenny rogers xmas.jpg

Favourites on the album:

Kentucky Homemade Christmas

ELVIS CHRISTMAS ALBUM 1970

elvis 1 xmas

I grew up on Elvis and Johnny Cash, can’t say it made me a huge fan of them or their genre of music, but it’s Elvis, and its Christmas music!

Favourites on this album:

White Christmas

Santa Claus Is Back In Town

Here Comes Santa Claus

ELVIS SINGS CHRISTMAS SONGS 1970

elvis 2 xmas

My Mom must be proud that somehow two Elvis albums ended up in our collection. Our youngest (13) was hanging out with me in our games room were I was going through our collection and listening to these to pick my faves and he says to me; mom why does he sing like that, he was referring to his “twang” I replied LOL he’s Elvis he even talks like that, he looked a me, said NO? and shook his head.

Favourites on the album:

Blue Christmas

Santa Bring My Baby Back

A PARTRIDGE FAMILY CHRISTMAS CARD

partridge family xmas.jpg

Not sure exactly why we have this one, it probably was a great deal and its the Partridge Family and Christmas music lol, I’m a tad too young to remember their tv show or their popularity, I cant find a year on this album but modern technology tells me it is from 1971.

Favourites on the album:

Rockin Around the Christmas Tree

Sleigh Ride

My Christmas Card To You

BING CROSBY

bing crosby xmas

I am 100% too young to remember Bing Crosby! In looking it up he in fact passed away when I was just 1 years old, but as Boney M is synonymous with Christmas Music for me, I’d say Bing is that for most others. No date on this one but it seems it is from the late 40’s to just the turn of the 50’s, my dad may not even have been born yet.

Favourites on the album:

I’ll Be Home For Christmas

Jingle Bells

Silver Bells

Beginning To Look A lot Like Christmas

MELE KALIKIMAKA ( you know the song Clark Griswold hears when he is dreaming of his backyard pool? ya that song!)

Do They Know It’s Christmas ( Single) 1984

do they know its xmas

I purchased this album before we even had a turntable to play it on, I avoid buying singles, but this is my all time favourite Christmas song. Proceeds from this album went to Famine Relief. I of course had a copy as a young girl as well.

CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN PRINTABLES

CHRISTMAS

marys boy child countdown.jpg
Numbers go inside the manger
advent
Advent candles are mostly a Catholic tradition I believe but I’m thinking “lighting” one per week is a great way to wish for hope love joy and peace in the world, especially at Christmas. You can find the flames HERE, print & colour them in or use to trace on glitter paper or construction paper etc, maybe in yellow or orange. Light one from left to right per week starting December 1st weekend.

feliz portuguese
Numbers go in the star

feliz spanish
I used google translate if dias hasta la navidad isn’t right feel free to let me know. Numbers go in the star

MAKE SURE FIT PICTURE TO FRAME OR SCALE TO FIT MEDIA  IS NOT CHECKED OFF DURING PRINTING-IT WILL THROW THE ACTUAL SIZES OFF.( MINE HAS AN 8X10 OPTION I USE THAT ONE) IN PORTRAIT OR LANDSCAPE AS NEEDED. PRINTERS CAN BE SUCH A PAIN! IF IT IS TOO BIG USE AN 8X10 PICTURE OR THE FRAME BACKING TO TRACE ON AND CUT DOWN. I HAVE MOST OF MINE PRINTED AT STAPLES, THEY USE LASER PRINTERS AND IT GIVES A PROFESSONAL LOOK, VERY INEXPENSIVE TOO.

Click on print of choice, opens in a new window to save and print. Once you put it in a frame use a black permanent type marker like a sharpie and write in the numbers on the space daily. ( the advent one use some tape and tape the “flames” ontop of the candles on the glass)

To wipe it off each day simply use a barley wet cloth or paper towel.

  2. Oh my gosh, I remember some of these. Great post. Oh, I forgot, been very busy, but wasn’t sure if I let you know I nominated you for the blogger appreciation award. https://ourlittleredhouseblog.wordpress.com/2018/10/29/blogger-recognition-award-2/
No pressure to participate, I know how busy us bloggers are, just wanted you to know I appreciate your post and always look forward to seeing them. I am terrible at contacting people but I try to remember. Hope you are feeling better and can’t wait to see what your Christmas tree looks like. I love all ornaments. I have too many, we had to get rid of some last year but I kept the special ones and of course the wooden ones I am obsessed about. They look great on packages.
