Back in the summer I pulled this calendar frame from the unsold pile at our block/family garage sale.
My first thought was it screamed WREATH! and that was my plan, until hubz joined an online Halloween group and I saw someone post a double frame ( on a hinge) with fabric looking for ideas for it, she mentioned she was thinking a ghost in a window maybe.
As soon as I read her thoughts for her frame I knew mine would not be a wreath.
The frame is one of those old school calendar frames
I removed the chipboard backing and reinforced the corners at the top with metal brackets
The bottom corners are reinforced by screwing the plywood ghost down ( I used 3 on each side and 4 along the bottom)
The curtain I sewed a top and bottom hem then used hanging wire wrapped around screws at the top and bottom as “rods”
We will be using it outdoors, I used outdoor paints and a paint marker for the face then the face was coated with matte clear spray coat.
Shout out to my hubz who free hand drew the ghost onto cardboard for me to use as a template on the plywood, my drawing skills suck lol and it’s much too big to print one off.
This frame luckily is real wood so it is perfect for outside, if you find one made of MDF board this craft will still work, you just have to use it indoors or on a covered porch.

You both did a great job, love the ghost. I bet your home looks great decorated up for Halloween. I remember taking the kids trick or treating and we always liked seeing the different decorations out in our neighborhood. We had one house that turned their garage into a haunted walk way.

I try not to do anything scary, our youngest has sensory processing disorder and I am now very aware of how even the cutest if halloween decor can petrify a child. I never did go gorey decor..not my thing…but now I go for as cute yet halloweeny as I can. He is 14 now and nothing bugs him bit there was a time when he was a toddler we had to get rid of many of our electronic decor…they petrified him.

Such a cute window and love the ghost. Great find and great upcycle. I couldn’t happen to notice that you said your son has sensory processing disorder and that he is 14, my son is also 14 and has sensory processing disorder. I totally understand everything you are saying and can so very much relate.

Wow! Really? Ours is the youngest of 4, a long journey these 14 years have been. As a baby he despised clothes that was our first “symptom” but we had no idea or diagnosis until he was 6 or 7, and even then we were tossed into unknown waters, much of our education has come from self teaching and experience. Thank you for sharing about your son.
